Welcome to the Capital USA Dance September Update

Greetings, USA Dancers!

As summer finally starts to cool down, things are hotting up in the ballroom! Fall holds lots of exciting events for our members. Read on to find out what's coming up!

See you this Sunday...

National Ballroom Dance Week

Starting this Friday, USA Dance chapters all across the country will begin their celebration of National Ballroom Dance Week. This celebration has been held formally for twenty-four years, and every year is better than the last. It's a fantastic opportunity to bring ballroom dance to the local community, and an even better excuse to have some fun!

Sure, it's ten days, not a week, but we're going to need all that extra time! This year, our chapter will be holding three separate events for NBDW, and they are all going to be amazing. See the individual events below for more details.

Special Monthly Dance

Our first event of National Ballroom Dance Week coincides with our monthly dance on Sunday, September 21st. The music will be DJ'd by Dancin' Time Music, and it will start off with a free Salsa class with Herschell Allen. We will also have a brand-new Paso Doble-Cha Cha showcase by Herschell Allen and Wendy Hill.

Sounds just like our regular dance, right? Ahh, but there's more! To kick NBDW off right, we've added some special events to the program. First, in honor of the end of summer, we'll take one last, longing look back by replacing our usual light refreshments with an ICE CREAM SOCIAL! We'll have two flavors of ice cream and all the fixin's for full-on sundaes. Next, we're trying something we haven't done in over a decade. We are going to offer a series of "ladies' choice" dances, where we'll ask the gentlemen to take a break from the business of finding dance partners and instead ask the ladies to try their hand at it instead!

The dance will be at our usual location, The Polish Community Center, 225 Washington Avenue Extension, Albany. For more details, click here!

Dancing At Boscov's

On Wednesday of National Ballroom Dance Week (September 24th), we'll be gathering our dance community together for a huge outreach event to the greater local community. From 6 to 9PM, we have secured the large event area of Colonie Center Mall, directly in front of Boscov's and next to the fountains, for three hours of showcases and social dancing!

Over twenty local couples have signed up to perform for us, and we hope all of our members will come out to support them and have a little fun! This is a perennial favorite event, and the crowd is always standing-room only. Of course, there'll also be plenty of time for social dancing between sets. Invite your friends and family, and come on out to cheer your fellow members on and show off to the amazed shoppers!

Black Tie Gala

The crowning glory of National Ballroom Dance Week and our biggest event of the year, the Black Tie Gala is an elegant evening of dance and fine dining at an amazingly low price! This black-tie optional event will include a cocktail reception and dinner, plus three hours of great ballroom dancing with dance hosts, a silent auction, and a photo-booth. Our guest DJ this year will be Peter Collins!

A veritable 'who's who' of ballroom dancing in the Capital District, this is an event you don't want to miss!

TIME IS RUNNING OUT TO REGISTER, so get your reservations in! There are only six days left to secure your place at this wonderful ballroom extravaganza. For details, or to register online, go to our website at
