Welcome to the Capital USA Dance January Update

Greetings, Capital District Dancers!

The days are getting longer, and the end is in sight. Winter's last gasps won't stop us from getting out on the the floor! Here's what's happening with USA Dance.

Another New Board Member!

In December, you elected a new board of directors to lead the chapter. As of our last note, there were still some jobs to be filled, but things are starting to shape up!

This week, the board filled another membership slot with the nomination and approval of John Tracy. The current list of positions held on the new board are as follows:

  • President - Blaise Hartley
  • Vice President - Barbara Ritschel
  • Treasurer - Margaret Watterworth
  • Secretary - Sherry Dickinson
  • Hospitality Co-Chair - Jim DeForge
  • Outreach Chair/Hospitality Co-Chair - Karen Pelland
  • Membership Chair - Fadia Ghobrial
  • Publicity Chair - Anita Riccio
  • Member-at-Large - Sabrina Hartley
  • Member-at-Large - John Tracy

Dancing at RPI

The Ballroom Dance Club and Team at RPI have shared some exciting news.

First, their annual ballroom dance competition will be held on Saturday, March 22nd at the RPI Armory. All members of the community are invited to attend either as spectators or competitors. Members of the team will attend both our February and March dances to provide details on the competition and to recruit volunteers to work the day of the event. Volunteering is a great opportunity to get an up-close and personal view of a major dance event, and it helps the home-team by allowing them to focus on competing, rather than working the event.

Second, The club and team have secured a commitment from RPI to help fund the complete replacement of the floor of their ballroom, and designate the space a reserved dance venue! Via a new program called 'WeR Gold' RPI will match any donated funds to assist in reaching the funding goal for the project. They ask that you visit their campaign page and consider contributing to this worthy cause!

February Dance This Sunday

This month's third Sunday dance is college night! Come out and show your school colors, and watch shows from RPI's Ballroom Dance Team. This event features music by DJ Bob Englert, a cha cha lesson also with Bob, and showcases by Matt Shoudy and Ali Kennicutt of the RPI ballroom dance team.

The dance will be held on Sunday, February 16th at the Polish Community Center (225 Washington Ave. Ext., Albany, NY)
