Welcome to the Capital USA Dance March Update

Greetings, USA Dancers!

It's a big month for dance in the Capital District. Our little corner of the world is getting ready to green, and in more ways than one. Time to welcome Spring (and St. Patty!) with a dance celebration! Read on to see what's coming up.

See you this Sunday...

18 Year Anniversary

March of 2016 marks the eighteenth anniversary of our chapter of USA Dance! It's hard to believe we've been around that long, and it's amazing that our members are still with us and going strong.

The board would like to thank everyone who's been with us on this ride, and we hope to recognize as many of you as possible at this month's dance, so come on out and help us celebrate! (More detail on that below)

RPI Ballroom Dance Competition

On April second, RPI will be holding its annual ballroom dance competition. As always, we expect a spectacular extravaganza of ballroom dance, and we hope you'll all come out and help us cheer the home team on! As is our custom, USA Dance is a sponsor of the competition, and our Ron Curry Foundation will be honoring the first place bronze-level couple in each of the four styles with a $75 dance scholarship!

All are welcome to spectate or compete! Saturday, April 2nd. Doors open at 7 AM, competition to begin at 8 AM and continue until 5 PM.

For the schedule and more details, you can visit the competition website, or come to this Sunday's dance, where RPI will have a table set up to sell tickets and sponsorships and answer questions!

Tea Dance

Back by popular demand, we are reprising our fantastically successful Tea Dance!

On Saturday, April 30th, Capital USA Dance is teaming up with our sister Adirondack chapter, to present an afternoon tea dance! Held at the Universal Preservation Hall from 3-6PM, this casual elegant event will be open to the public, but intended to delight our members! With member provided refreshments and music by Johnny Martinez, it's an afternoon of relaxed dance fun with a touch of class.

This event is designed to let you come to Saratoga and dance away the afternoon, and then be free to spend your evening enjoying the amenities of Saratoga Springs.

$10 - Members
$13 - Non-members
Students - $5
Under 18 - Free

Capital USA Dance March Dance

Our March dance will be held on Sunday, March 20th at 6 P.M. Our venue will once again be the Polish Community Center at 225 Washington Avenue Extension, Albany, NY. Former president and board member Gary Burgess has volunteered to DJ our music and there will be a rumba lesson with Tristan Riemann of Saratoga Arthur Murray from 6:15 to 7:00. Our showcase will be a rumba presented by Tristan and his partner and former board member Jennifer Dominelli.

We have a double theme this month, celebrating both St. Patty's Day and our own chapter's eighteenth anniversary, so be prepared in your green and your nostalgia! We'd also love it if everyone who's helped and supported us over the years came out to be recognized:

  • Did you serve on the Steering Committee that formed our chapter?
  • Have you served on the board of directors?
  • Have you been a member since March 1998?
  • Have you taught a lesson for us?
  • Have you been a DJ for us?
  • Did you dance on one of the many formation teams?
  • Did you travel to Montreal, NYC or New Jersey with us?
  • Did you attend our 10th Anniversary Celebration?

If any of these describe you, or if you've supported us in any other way, we want to see you in person and recognize your contributions!

As always, admission is $10 for members, $13 for non-members, $5 for students and free for volunteers and under 18.
