Welcome to the Capital USA Dance January Update

Hi, USA Dancers!

Welcome to the new year! It's a time for keeping warm, resolutions, and starting new things. What better way to do all three than on the dance floor?

See you this Sunday...

New Year, New Board of Directors!

Our members nominated exactly eleven candidates for eleven directorships this year. Since no balloting was necessary, the nominations chair has declared the nominees elected. This week, the new board met for the first time, elected officers, and selected committee chairs.

Your new leadership team, whose term will span 2016 and 2017, is:

  • Blaise Hartley, President
  • Barbara Ritschel, Vice President
  • Margaret Watterworth, Treasurer
  • Sherry Dickinson, Secretary/Footnotes Chair
  • Jim DeForge, Hospitality Chair
  • Fadia Ghobrial, Membership Chair
  • Anita Riccio, Publicity Chair
  • Jean Rose, Outreach Chair
  • Sabrina Hartley, Member at Large
  • Nancy McClearn, Member at Large
  • Dorothy Kevlin, Member at Large

Please join us in welcoming our new members, and saying a heartfelt farewell to our departing director, John Tracy!

Volunteer!

Your Chapter needs you. The board of directors organizes our chapter's activities, but they can't do it alone!

We have a number of committees to carry out the work of the chapter, all of which are staffed by members of our organization willing to devote a few hours per month. Please consider joining one of the following committees:

  • Finance
  • Newsletter
  • Hospitality
  • Membership
  • Outreach
  • Publicity

If you have questions about any of these committees, please contact the chairs listed above, or communicate directly with our Vice President, Barbara Ritschel, at vp@capitalusadance.com!

Manhattan Amateur Classic

A total of 20 Capital District USA Dance members will be participating as competitors, volunteers or spectators at this year's Manhattan Amateur Classic DanceSport Competition (January 15-16 in Jersey City, NJ).

This is a record number of representatives from the Capital District chapter, and we all wish them the best of luck and lots of fun!

January Dance This Sunday

Our January dance will be held on Sunday, January 17th at 6 P.M. Our venue will once again be the Polish Community Center at 225 Washington Avenue Extension, Albany, NY.

Our DJ will be Paul Giuliano. Our free lesson will be Samba with Louise Giuliano from 6:15 to 7:00 (in the upstairs studio this month). The Albany DanceSport Team will present a showcase, "Three Grrrlz & a Boy - Lips Are Moving".

As always, admission is $10 for members, $13 for non-members, $5 for students, and free for volunteers and under 18.

Upcoming Chapter Events

  • Sunday February 21st at the Polish Community Center - This month's dance will include music and a waltz lesson by Erick Singleman and a foxtrot showcase from Gary Burgess and Connie Bouchard
  • Sunday March 20th - Music by Capital USA Dance!
