President's Corner: Old Year, New Inspiration

Hi members,

As I write this, the new year has just begun. It's insanely cold outside, so we're not going anywhere for a day or two, and it's the perfect opportunity to reflect on the past year, and look forward to the coming one!

2014 was a great year for our organization! After some big changes in leadership, participation, and direction, our future coming into the year was far from certain. However, our members and board of directors were up to the challenge, and what happened was pretty amazing.

After several years of losses, our membership has stabilized, and even begun to increase in some months. Attendance at our monthly dances rebounded as well, and our coffers are beginning to fill once again. Our membership has stepped up and increased their participation and volunteering. We've introduced new themes, mixers, and ideas at our monthly dances and tried out some fun refinements to our larger events. National Ballroom Dance Week in particular was a massive success in 2014, with the largest public showcase we've ever held and the most well-received Black Tie Gala in recent memory. Finally, our New Year's Eve celebration, for the first time in partnership with our fellow dancers in Cotillion and The Benedicts, was by far the biggest and most acclaimed in the history of our organization.

2015 promises to be even better than last year. We've got a whole slew of new ideas to try out at our regular events, like new, member-suggested themes and mixers and several new or significantly tweaked larger events. We'll be running a membership drive/recruitment contest this summer, and looking for new board members and volunteers to join us and share their ideas and skills. We also hope to offer our monthly newsletter, Footnotes, electronically for the first time!

I've been honored to serve as president during the past year, and have great anticipation for the year to come. I would like to thank all of our members and the board of directors for their support and participation, and I have high hopes for our organization in the year to come!

See you on the dance floor!

Blaise
