What style to learn next after 2step?

Dance Forums - Sun, 08/19/2012 - 7:17pm
Hey guys,
I started dancing (I'm 30) in May of 2012 with mainly C&W styles such as 2 step and a little bit of Triple 2 step. I'm having a blast and wish I had done this sooner!

I'd like to move on to another dance style so I can dance more and not sit out the songs I can't dance to. I mainly dance at a country bar, so the tunes are mostly country with some tunes for WCS, Jitterbug, Country Waltz, Polka, and maybe Salsa.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to a good dance style to learn next after 2 step? Someone suggested I learn ECS before WCS. I did watch some tutorials online for Jitterbug and that looks like fun.

Thanks.
P.S> I'm in Texas so I mostly hang out at the country bars, but I'll be moving to Saint Louis in the coming weeks and I think it's mostly swing up there?

Dancing Desert!

Dance Forums - Sat, 08/18/2012 - 11:12pm
We are Motion Dance Studios, located in Valdosta, Georgia. Does anyone else have the experience of living in a well populated area that is completely destitute of dancers? We live in a mid-sized city and there are no other studios, and very few dancers in a 2 hour radius around us! We love to dance, and we love our students. Our goal is to bring Ballroom and Latin dancing to South Georgia. Do you live in South Georgia? Do you have any ideas for introducing dancing successfully in a place that is totally void of dance?

Community Supported Agriculture

So how many people participate in CSAs? I participate in a summer CSA, the Full Plate Farm Collective, that I call my Freedom Choice CSA. I enjoy this because I can choose the quantity and composition of my weekly veggies, plus the generous u-pick fields at the two pick-up farm locations. A farm pick-up share for the approx. 6 month season is US $515, which works to US $20/25 per week. Factor in the u-pick, plus splitting the share which I do as a single person and it is a bargain on so many levels that it is a non-question for me as to whether I want to participate or not.

What CSAs do people participate in? Have there been any new veggies that you have discovered in your weekly share? Have you participated in a similar model as CSAs for other food items like the side dish model offered by my CSA? I've never done the side dish option myself and am interested in hearing the experience of others.

Your Favorite Hot Sauce

Dance Forums - Fri, 08/17/2012 - 1:53am
I love hot sauce, almost all kinds. I have new favorite
Annie Chun's Go Chu Jang
It is a Korean Sweet and Spicy Sauce (vegan too). I love it.

I'm thinking I will order a selection of different hot sauces from Amazon. Any ideas?

kindle vs nook?

Dance Forums - Thu, 08/16/2012 - 1:55pm
I am thinking of buying one of those book reading devices. I am thinking Nook because of better file format support. Nook just dropped price for NOOK Tablet™ - 16GB to $199.

Any experience with any of those devices?

making avi from dvd

Dance Forums - Wed, 08/15/2012 - 2:42pm
We always get our competitions recorded on cd/dvd by a video vendor. I wish they can make it .avi file. If I want to edit our comp video or make smaller file to post to facebook, I would need to convert it to avi file and then there are many programs I can use for editing. Did anyone had good experience with dvd to avi converters, I have tried few free or some trail versions, but they are not making good quality video or confusing to use.

swing lessons online

Dance Forums - Wed, 08/15/2012 - 12:01pm
Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some online swing/lindy hop lessons. I love the dance and I want to make it the first dance on my wedding (which is in less than two months so I'm seriously panicking). The problem is that I can't find any good instructions online - it's either for absolute beginners or advanced dancers and nothing in between. I'd love to go to normal classes, but there's nothing like that in my country.. Can you recommend some good sites? I've searched youtube and I couldn't find anything good..

I want to dance to 'Sing sing sing' by Benny Goodman (maybe not the best choice for begginers, but I'm sure we will manage with some good lessons ;)) I found videos with basic steps, but I really need something that would show some routine or more steps that I could learn (and then teach my very-soon-to-be husband).

Thank you!

Endurance

Dance Forums - Wed, 08/15/2012 - 11:32am
With the summer wrapping up and, at least for my team, comp season will be starting in about 3ish months, I have been thinking a lot about endurance and how to build it up.

I know there are a lot of ways to build it up, eg non-dancing cardio activity or doing more rounds back to back.

But I was wondering if you guys had any other ways that you build endurance what works best for you.

Is Step (as in step team) considered dance
